Welcome to my newest blog. Alta de Lisboa is a new(ish) area in Lisbon which has been designed from the ground up. It was this planning that drew me here in the first place.
There are already lots of blogs about Alta de Lisboa and I hope this blog will bring a slightly different angle by adding an Anglo Saxon view of the area.
I will first look at the area as a whole then (in later posts) cover smaller issues that affect the area.
I hope to be objective and not biased. Although I live here, I am not going to try and sell Alta for SGAL (the group that are managing the development of the area) neither do I wish to bring it down. My sole intent is to give an insider’s view to Alta de Lisboa.

Hi. Just wondering how the hell you got here…

What do you mean? Why did I come to Lisbon or why did I come to Alta? Or Portugal?
I came here to be with my wife (who is Portuguese) and we decided to buy in Alta as the area is so promising. We heard about it through publicity and we used to walk our dogs in the old Quinta das Conchas (when we lived just off Av. Roma).
Hope this helps

hey Tom, i don’t know if you remember me (the American) or not, we met in the park a few months ago. I had two little boys, and our 3 yr. olds really had fun playing together. I stumbled upon your blog, and thought it was funny that i knew this person writing! LOL Hey, I have a question, do you know any good language schools in our near area. (teaching Portuguese) Hope to see you guys again soon.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for stopping by, I hope the family is well. Shame te weather has been too lousy for the park recently.
As for language schools near here I’m afraid I at a loss, you could try Oxford or Cambridge school, as I’m sure they both teach Portuguese. Cambridge has a centre near here but I’m fairly sure they don’t teach Portuguese at that particular centre.
I’m sure we can meet up for the kids to play some time soon

Hi there, I noticed your cycling-related post from some time ago, and I thought I’d ask…
I’ll be visiting Lisbon in July for the first time. I volunteer with a bicycle collective in Austin, TX, USA and I wondered if there was anything similar in Lisbon.

It’s sort of good manners to bring some T-shirts, buttons, stickers and such to like-minded organizations. It’d be interesting to compare notes (or something, anyway, since I don’t speak Portuguese).
