You’re welcome, Tom!
Great soundtrack, Tom!
David Byrne an the great Talking Heads! Also very appropriate, Road to Nowhere, and better than Road to Nowhere just Psycho Killer, which is what we all will become after years and years of no conclusion in the Santos e Castro and the other projects in Alta.
Anyway, this is just another example of the great music that came out from the Lower East Side of NYC and the great venue BCBGs was (It closed last year. I heard it will reopen soon…but in Vegas): The Ramones, Blondie, Patti Smith, Talking Heads and many more bands…I just regret I never had the chance to hear this guys live back in the late 70s or early 80s…
I also like the “Ken Burns effect” that you are using with the still images in your movie. This means you are probably using iPhoto in a Mac. So I see that not only you have good taste in the music you listen but also the computers you use in your work.
Of course, Ken Burns makes great documentaries: World War II (the most recent), History of Jazz, History of Baseball, Civil War, Lewis and Clark…all of them are very worth watching.
Thanks Tom for allowing me to start my day with so many positive thoughts!
Enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FzEadbTCKDA
I love everything in this clip: Byrne’s weird dancing and singing, the sound of the drum machine, the rhythm guitar…and the rest of the band joins him in the end, although in this clip it ends before that happens…
Hi mdn,
). Ramones were also a GREAT band. The BCGB’s had to end as all great things do (or they lose their cult value), what will happen when it moves to Vegas? Well just think of all of the “alternative” bands who went mainstream and you’ll get your answer (I suppose all except the R H Chili Peppers). Maybe they should have thought of moving to Alta, that would certainly keep the underground status.
Thanks for your comments once again… always good to know someone is reading/following.
As for Talking Heads I confess to being a fan (though I don’t much care for the image of Byrne bouncing around on stage
Anyway enough about the NY scene, much as I love it.
You’re right I use a Mac… Who in their “right” mind doesn’t… most have not woken up to the idea. I grew up with a range of computers and Windows boxes were just a step I took. I used them for about 10 years then realised I spent too long fixing them and not doing anything with them. The Mac on the other hand is a tool.
The Ken burns is seriously overused in my vid but then again I only spent about 30 mins making it, and the effect is now included in iMovie 8 so no need to to alter anything in iphoto. I screen grabbed the photos straight from the net (command - shift - 4 ) and dragged them straight into the project. I still prefer iMovie HD (6) for video editing but most of the same features are there in iMovie8 (albeit hidden). ok I’m waffling now.
So back to the topic…
I read this week in Time Out (Lisboa) that M. S. - the man behind the ideas in CML that Alta is the back of the city and he has so many plans for the rest. So many, in fact, that all credibility is lost. My advice to anyone investing in Lisboa now… stay clear of projects/plans etc and find somewhere already well established i.e….. well I’m not sure. But CML has so many plans it looks like greedy boy in a sweet shop. Pity he only has 20cents.
“My advice to anyone investing in Lisboa now… stay clear of projects/plans etc and find somewhere already well established i.e….. ” …like Baixa/Chiado, where everything is either old and crumbling or extremely expensive…
I already did my “investment” in Lisbon and it was in Alta (If I had some real money, it would be in NYC, trust me. At this moment with the US$ so low and property prices going down, even if not so much in NYC, that’s the best investment anyone can make).
I am still optimistic in Alta, although the “long term” aspect of Alta, which we all knew from the beginning, seems to be getting even longer and longer, due to the current CML.
The good news is that nothing in Portugal lasts forever and this CML will go, as others went, and probably already in 2009. It seems to me that the current mayor has higher political ambitions or he may be “forced” into it. The PM should be aware of this by now. M.S,, J.S.F. and the other “actors” of the current “Lisbon Story” will either follow the leader or stay behind as debris (together with their “projects”). Others will come. Maybe PSL will come in a retake, maybe someone else. Hopefully (hope is everywhere, these days) they will be more sympathetic towards SGAL and Alta. Everything should happen much faster than the slow pace of the Wenders’ film, even if the soundtrack won’t be as good…(and again, soundtracks are important)
That is why everyone should steer clear of any new projects in Lisbon… fortunately for us Alta as a project is now nearing 25 years old! Now that is slooooooowww. To think that the Empire state building took just 1 year to build and here they can’t even finish a road in 5 years.
